Age of Anxiety is about fear and doubt in modern life, with the band using the panicked heartbeat and breathing at the start of the track to heighten that feeling. The title is a quote from a poem by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and refers to a period of human uncertainty and the search for meaning, possibly in a religious sense too, with the hope that fear will ultimately be overcome by love and reconnection.

We are constantly warned about what might happen, it seems we always have to be prepared for the worst, and as a girl you are made extra fearful / aware of your own vulnerability. For a very long time, fear kept me in 'check', kept me small and made me afraid of everything happening around me. I had become afraid to feel, afraid of what might come up. Afraid to be seen when I was vulnerable. Afraid to be heard, because my voice betrayed doubt. By letting the fear come to life, inviting it in and truly seeing and feeling it, I finally had room to breathe again.
